It is native from Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Florida and Texas in the United States.

Opuntioideae
Opuntia microdasys
It is native from Mexico and can form dense bushes 1 meter high or more, its habitat is arid areas.

Cactoideae
Mammillaria prolifera
It is native from Mexico although it has spread throughout the world as an ornamental plant. Their natural habitats is deserts.
